Where is Indonesia ?

Indonesia is a country in Southeast Asia, which is crossed by the equator and located between Asia and Australia as well as between the Pacific and Indian Ocean and between the meeting two series of mountains, namely Sirkum Pacific and Mediterranean. Indonesia is the world's largest archipelagic country consisting of 13 466 islands, therefore Indonesia is also known as the Archipelago.



In 1972, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) to publish as many as 6127 the name of islands in Indonesia. Coordinating Agency for Surveys and Mapping, in 1992 published the Gazetteer Names of the Island and the Islands of Indonesia noted that as many as 6489 the island already has a name, including 374 islands in the river's name. according to the results of the research Institute of Aeronautics and Space Agency (Lapan), In the year 2002 based on satellite imagery study states that the number of islands in Indonesia are as many as 18,306 pieces.Data from the Ministry of Interior based on reports from its governors and regents / mayors, in 2004 declared that the 7870 islands that already have names, and 9634 other islands do not  have a name yet.
